If you need deeper help, please reach out to a counselor—I can connect you with trusted professionals if you comment below.

Now, let’s dive in.

Here’s a truth we often resist: God specializes in using unworthy people.

Remember what we discussed in the last step? How we love to boast in our own righteousness?

The Jews in Romans 2-5 made this mistake—they prided themselves on circumcision, sacrifices, and their law-keeping.

But Paul exposes the truth: Our weakness is where God’s strength shines.

Some of us pretend we’ve got it all together—like our lives are flawless, our decisions always wise.

But here’s the reality: God meets us most powerfully in our mess.

That’s how grace works.

Look at Paul’s testimony: "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst" (1 Timothy 1:15).

The man who persecuted Christians became God’s chosen model of redemption!

How?

Because his brokenness became the platform for God’s power.

Scripture is full of such stories:

Rahab the prostitute became a faith hero (Hebrews 11:31)

Gideon the coward led Israel to victory (Judges 6)

David the adulterer was called "a man after God’s heart" (Acts 13:22)

Why?

Because they all shared one trait: They came to God in their weakness, not their strength.

David wrote: "By my God I can leap over a wall...it is God who arms me with strength" (Psalm 18:29, 32).

He understood what we often forget—our brokenness qualifies us for God’s help, not disqualifies us.

During my darkest battles with addiction in university, I’d fast, pray, and berate myself—yet still felt unworthy.

One day, God impressed on me: "I will make you a healer for others."

At first, I misheard it and felt like "my mind is saying this"—that’s how deep my shame ran!

But slowly I realized: My pain would become my purpose.

Isaiah 58:12 became my lifeline: "You will rebuild the ancient ruins...you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls."

That’s my prayer for you in this journey—that your past pain becomes building material for God’s restoration.

This changes everything:

Your weakness is God’s workspace (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Your story is someone else’s survival guide (Like the Samaritan woman whose shame brought her town to Jesus)

Your "disadvantages" may be divine setup (Joseph’s pit became his promotion path)

Max Lucado wrote in Cure for the Common Life: "Your history becomes His story." Those things you’re ashamed of? God wants to redeem them as testimonies.

So here’s our step today:

Drop the shame – What if your failures are actually credentials for ministry?

Embrace your story – Like the demon-delivered man who evangelized ten cities (Mark 5:19-20)

Run to God, not from Him – He’s not disappointed in your struggles; He’s drawn to them

Pray this with me: "God, take my broken pieces and build something beautiful. Turn my test into a testimony. Use even this pain for Your purpose."

PS: So, your tool for this step is found below

<p class="button-wrapper" It's poison. Absolute poison.

I remember that Nigerian movie Alakada - about a girl who built this entire fake identity because the truth of who she really was felt too painful.

Aren't we all like that sometimes? Creating versions of ourselves we think will be more acceptable?

But here's the hard truth: The shame of needing help is what keeps most of us stuck.

Nobody wants to be the weak one. The needy one. The one who can't get it together.

But real restoration? That never happens in isolation.

There's this story about trained elephants - when they're babies they're tied to small stakes they can't break free from.

As adults they could easily pull free, but they don't even try.

Why? Because they've learned the lie that they're still trapped.

We're like those elephants. The things that hurt us years ago may be gone, but we're still living like we're tied down.

The voices that told us we weren't enough, the failures that convinced us we couldn't win - we're still responding to ropes that don't actually exist anymore.

Just last month I was scrolling through old classmates' profiles - the same people who used to make me feel small.

And you know what hit me? I was still carrying their words like they were truth.

Still letting those old judgments define me.

What's keeping you stuck isn't your present reality. It's the lies you've believed:

- "I'll always be this way"

- "I don't deserve better"

- "This is just who I am"

Those aren't truths. They're wounds dressed up as facts.

So how do we rise?

Here's the path:

<a class="image-link image2 Instead, God spoke in a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:11-12).

This reminds us that God’s leading isn’t always loud or flashy; sometimes, it’s a quiet nudge in our spirits.

Recently, I came across a post discussing how the Holy Spirit often speaks to us through our emotions—highlighting areas in our lives that need His work.

Some people assume that hearing from God means speaking in tongues, having visions, or operating in spiritual gifts.

But one of the Holy Spirit’s primary roles is to guide us into truth (John 16:13), correcting us where we’ve gone astray and leading us toward freedom.

Let me share a personal example.

I once needed to secure an apartment. After visiting it, I initially felt it was manageable, but afterward, I lost my peace.

The next morning, I couldn’t pray about it—something felt off. When I consulted my parents, they sensed the same hesitation.

That unrest was the Holy Spirit nudging me away from a decision that wasn’t right for me.

This is what I call the moment God breaks into your pain. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

He isn’t distant in our struggles—He’s right there with us.

People often ask, “God, where are You in my pain?”

The truth is, He’s in it with you—whether you’re facing betrayal, injustice, or emotional turmoil.

The Holy Spirit often highlights areas in our lives that need refinement. Maybe it’s the way we speak—perhaps we talk too much or obsess over a past hurt, seeking justice in our own strength.

Let me share another personal story.

Someone once spoke harshly about me, tarnishing my reputation and severing ties.

My first instinct was to retaliate—I’m a writer, and I knew I could craft a sharp response.

But in that moment, the Spirit whispered: “Let the Lord vindicate you.” Scripture says, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord” (Romans 12:19).

Though the pain was real, I chose to trust God.

That same week, an unexpected platform publicly affirmed me—far better than any defense I could’ve mustered.

Some of us rush into revenge, but God’s vindication is always perfect.

When we’re broken, we stand at a crossroads. Brokenness can either become:

- A stronghold for the enemy, where bitterness takes root, or

- A gateway for God’s restoration, where healing begins.

Proverbs 25:28 warns that “a man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.”

Unchecked emotions—anger, pain, unforgiveness—leave us vulnerable.

But when we surrender our hurt to God, He rebuilds us.

David is a prime example.

King Saul hunted him out of jealousy, yet David refused to retaliate.

He entrusted his pain to God—and in time, God exalted him.

Spiritual growth isn’t just about miracles or gifts; it’s about developing the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience (Galatians 5:22-23).

This happens when we yield to His corrections.

Today, I urge you:

1. Identify the nudges. Where is the Spirit prompting you to change?

2. Release your pain. Don’t let it become the enemy’s foothold.

3. Act on His leading. Don’t wait for a dramatic sign—obey in the small things.

Take time to journal:

“Lord, what area of my life are You working on right now?”

Then, cooperate with Him.

Freedom is on the other side.

Make use of the tool below

Holy Spirit Guidance tool

I’ll see you soon

Favour

What Your Anger and Grief Are Trying to Tell You

Your Anger, Clinginess, or Addictions Aren’t Random—They’re Cries for Help. href="https://theuproject.substack.com/p/your-second-step">here

One of my best subjects in my senior year of secondary school was economics.

We studied concepts like the scale of preference, needs versus wants, and essentials versus non-essentials.

When we talk about needs, we’re referring to the things that sustain us—our desires, our essentials, what helps us thrive.

Economics became something that was hard for me to love or comprehend, all because I had teachers change over time in concession, and that led to losing interest in their various teaching styles.

But here’s the gist—I’m still applying economics because today, I want to focus on behavioral economics.

I was previewing the story of this woman we call the Samaritan woman lately, and I was searching for the soul thirst.

Yeah, on the surface, her appearance in the synoptic Gospels feels like it was all about water and thirst, but indeed it is deeper than that—it is soul thirst.

She mirrors our struggles as individuals, her attempts to live life her way, to cope with the many demands of her being and her relational existence.

From her, we see a shameful woman who feels hated in the community, her perception that anyway, she argues intellectually with the truth, which mirrors what broken people do.

We know more about scriptures but nothing to see it experientially.

She was a woman with a serial way of coping with her life.

You can ask me what led to my reading up on her.

From my notes, I was watching an interview on BBC with a former porn actress.

She mentioned that her story into porn started with a wound.

She felt bad in her body; she thought she was flawed until she became desirable because men loved a part of her body, and for her not to lose this attention, she needed to keep them.

She mirrored this: Using her body/attention to feel valued, fearing invisibility if the male gaze fades, but below the surface, she wants to be seen—to believe she’s worthy beyond her desirability.

The same goes with the Samaritan woman: five failed marriages, hiding in shame, seeking love in relationships that couldn’t satisfy.

She wants to be wanted—to belong to someone who wouldn’t discard her.

People often say human needs are insatiable, and there’s truth in that.

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs explains how every person has fundamental requirements, from basic survival to self-actualization.

There’s even a book on relationships that discusses the importance of understanding each other’s needs—how couples can strengthen their bond by recognizing what both partners truly require.

Often, in relationships, we focus on superficial qualities—height, complexion, and other external traits—instead of what really matters: safety, trust, and emotional connection.

If you feel safe with someone, their height or appearance becomes irrelevant.

But let’s not digress.

Instead, let’s connect these ideas to the journey we’ve been on together.

Thank you for joining me in this third week—I truly appreciate you.

Now, let’s talk about emotions.

In life, the emotions we experience—anger, grief, and others—often point to deeper issues.

Earlier this year, I reflected on my past and realized I used to be an aggressive person, especially toward the opposite sex.

I would argue with women, even physically confront them.

My father called me out on it, and my sisters feared me.

Once, I dislocated my older sister’s arm in a fit of rage.

Another time, I hit my younger sister so hard she bled from her mouth.

Looking back, it was shocking behavior.

For a long time, I felt ashamed of that anger.

But when I reflected deeper, I asked myself:

Why was I so angry?

I realized it stemmed from feeling silenced—like women took advantage of my naivety, imposed their will on me, and others excused their behavior because they were seen as "weaker vessels."

That resentment built up over time.

Here’s the key takeaway: Many of the behaviors we exhibit—anger, excessive attachment, people-pleasing—are signals of unmet emotional needs.

For example, some women cling to men who don’t love them because they’re searching for the fatherly affection they never received.

A colleague once told me about a woman obsessed with a man who didn’t care for her.

I explained that her behavior wasn’t about love—it was about filling a void.

Her parents’ neglect left her desperate for validation, and she latched onto anyone who gave her fleeting attention.

I once stayed in a toxic relationship because I believed I could "fix" the other person.

Later, I realized it wasn’t love—it was codependency.

Without them, I felt lost.

That’s not healthy love; it’s a sign of unresolved pain.

When we lack self-worth, we look for fulfillment outside ourselves.

But Scripture reminds us that in Christ, we already have everything we need.

Ephesians 1 outlines the blessings God has given us—each one addressing our deepest emotional wounds.

Psychologist Guy Winch writes about emotional pain and how to heal it.

Studying his work, I realized our struggles are universal, and God’s Word provides the answers.

Your anger, grief, or unhealthy habits aren’t random—they’re messages.

Avoidance? You don’t trust people.

People-pleasing? You fear rejection.

Addiction? You’re numbing pain.

What Can You Do?

Map your emotions. Identify patterns in your behavior.

Ask: What unmet need is driving this?

For me, porn was an escape from emotional overload. I needed peace, not temporary relief.

Seek healing. Until you address the root, the cycle continues.

If you ignore these signals, you’ll stay stuck.

But understanding them is the first step toward freedom.

Here is your task for this week:

Draw out your Emotional Map with the resource below

<a overnight.

There’s no quick fix for deep wounds.

This is your second step…

We’re still on our emotional restoration journey, and today, let’s talk about why it feels safe to resign to F-A-T-E: how life unfolds.

If you missed the first step, you can find it here

Why does fate feel safe?

Here’s something I’ve realized: People often don’t move forward in their journey to wholeness because they’ve resigned themselves to the idea that nothing works.

We live in a quick-fix era.

Everywhere you look, there’s a promise of instant solutions:

Three steps to overcome fear!

Five days to conquer addiction!

The self-help industry thrives on selling us the illusion that healing can be fast and easy.

But let me be clear:

Emotional restoration is a lifelong journey.

It requires learning, unlearning, and relearning.

The brokenness you’ve experienced isn’t something you can patch up overnight.

There’s no quick fix for deep wounds.

Imagine treating malaria with pain relievers—it might mask the symptoms, but it won’t cure the disease.

Similarly, surface-level solutions won’t heal emotional pain. We must dig deeper.

Yet, many of us keep reaching for shortcuts.

We listen to a podcast, feel a temporary rush of motivation, and think, “I’m fixed!”

But when the high wears off, we’re left disillusioned.

“I’ve tried everything,” we say. “Nothing works.”

I remember a conversation with someone struggling with sexual addiction.

They said, “I’ve tried everything—praying, crying, fighting—but I’m still stuck.”

Here’s the truth: The path to wholeness is messy.

It’s not a straight line.

It’s a daily commitment, like tending to a wound.

You clean it, dress it, and give it time.

Skip those steps, and it festers.

I won't be quick to dismiss that;

We live in a world that shames emotional struggle.

If you’re not “fixed” fast, you’re seen as weak.

But here’s what I know: It’s okay to be broken.

Everyone is.

We live in a broken world.

No one is living a flawless life.

Yet, because we crave quick fixes, we grow impatient.

We want change now.

But real restoration is gradual—little by little, step by step.

Scripture says, “Add to your faith patience” (2 Peter 1:6).

The Israelites didn’t reach the Promised Land overnight; their journey took 40 years.

God didn’t remove their enemies all at once but “little by little” (Deuteronomy 7:22).

So,

When you hit a setback, it’s easy to say, “I’m done. I can’t do this anymore.”

But relapse isn’t failure.

It’s part of the process.

You don’t stop fighting because you stumbled.

You keep going.

Your Tool Kits:

Here’s what helps:

1. Embrace your unique journey. Don’t compare your progress to others’, because their path isn’t yours.

2. Reject guilt. God isn’t angry with you for struggling and shake off the dust (Isaiah 52:2) and keep moving.

3. Check your beliefs. Ask yourself:

Do I believe I’ll always be broken?

Do I trust that healing is possible?

Your mindset shapes your journey.

Find your free toolkit below

Healing Journey

So, let's wrap this up;

Please note these:

Healing isn’t about speed; it’s about direction.

You don’t need someone to “fix” you today.

You need to walk the path—day by day, layer by layer.

So don’t resign to fate.

Don’t settle for quick fixes.

Your restoration is worth the time it takes.

I acknowledging our pain? For true emotional restoration, we must start by recognizing our wounds.

To give you some context—whether you know me or not—I wasn’t raised in a perfect home, because we don't live in a perfect world.

I won’t say my parents were bad; they did their best.

But I went through a phase in my life where I felt ostracized.

I experienced relational trauma—verbal abuse, bullying—and I lost my sense of self.

Shame consumed me.

I was broken.

I didn’t know how to speak up for myself.

I have had times when people take advantage of this and landed me in trouble.

I couldn’t even define what my life was supposed to look like.

Yes, I was in church.

I understood Scripture, but I didn’t know how to apply it to my struggles.

As a young man, I battled intense shame.

My emotions were a mess.

When puberty hit, my testosterone surged, and I started feeling attraction toward girls—but I didn’t know how to talk to them.

Worse, I was exposed to inappropriate content at a young age (around 8–10 years old).

The enemy seized that stronghold in my heart.

Because I couldn’t relate to the opposite sex in a healthy way, the enemy exploited my weakness.

I turned to pornography to cope with stress, loneliness, and emotional pain.

My mind became wired for hyper-sexuality—not toward real relationships, but toward addiction.

I wanted to stop.

I prayed, fasted, confessed to mentors, and even had accountability partners—but nothing worked.

I felt trapped, guilty, and broken.

Then, one day, I heard a sermon about emotional wounds.

The speaker explained that some addictions aren’t just about willpower; they’re symptoms of deeper pain.

That message resonated with me.

I realized I had identity and attachment wounds.

My sense of self had been crushed, and my brokenness kept me from fully connecting with God.

But that moment became a turning point.

When I finally opened my wounds to God, I wept—and for the first time, I saw myself differently.

I wasn’t an accident.

I wasn’t irreparably broken.

One day, I even looked in the mirror and said, “I love myself”—something I’d never done before.

Emotional wounds are like physical ones.

If you ignore a small cut, it festers and becomes infected.

Similarly, unattended emotional pain becomes a wound that affects your soul.

Many people carry hidden wounds—abuse, betrayal, abandonment—that shape their lives in destructive ways.

They feel broken, distrustful, and afraid.

But here’s the truth: God redeems. Psalm 34:19 says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

Your pain doesn’t have to define you.

Don’t waste your pain.

Acknowledge it.

Cry if you need to.

Admit the weight you’ve been carrying.

Healing begins when you expose your wounds to God and let Him meet you there.

One day, your story will help others.

Today, I walk in freedom—but it started with honesty.

Your First Step:

Download your pain acknowledgment worksheet here and follow the instructions.

Pain Acknowledgment Worksheet

See you next time.

Favour Godwin
